The story behind this spellbook

A little wonder. A lot of words.

Spelling Spells explores spells, powers, and incantations through their names and sources. Discover words from books, comics, films, television and games, with the context that keeps each world distinct.

What you will find

Entries identify their type, fictional effect, character or caster, continuity and source references. Spelling, language and word-origin notes add context. Pronunciation appears when a guide is available; a missing guide is not replaced with a guess.

Words, in their own worlds

The public archive reads published entries from the catalog database. Powers, named spells and incantations are identified separately, and different adaptations keep their own context. Fictional settings and folklore traditions are labelled separately; a cultural belief is never presented as a proven supernatural effect. The archive is curated rather than exhaustive.

Careful with origins and sounds

Etymologies are labelled Confirmed, Suggested, or Unconfirmed. Pronunciation notes distinguish creator guidance from editorial sound aids. A computer voice is a reading aid rather than an official recording.

A spellbook you can make your own

Browsing is public and needs no account. Sign in to save spells in your private cross-device collection. Viewing history and theme stay on your device. Existing device bookmarks are preserved, and importing them into your account is your choice.

Contribute with care

Prepare a draft on your device or sign in to send a private suggestion for Owner review. You can view your own submitted records and review notes. Approval and publication are separate steps; sending a suggestion does not add it to the public archive.

Writing and illustrations

Entry summaries use original wording and link to their references. The original spell illustrations are labelled AI-generated interpretations, separate from canonical source material. Third-party media requires appropriate permission or a licence and its own credit.

A Piratechs project

Spelling Spells is built by Piratechs for the pleasure of exploring language and stories. Fictional worlds and their names remain the work of their respective creators.
